On most construction sites, the materials move twice: once by truck to the gate, and once by hand — or by a pickup doing short hops between the laydown area, the hoist, and the work face. That second move is where construction loses money, because a pickup idling on a muddy site, a van squeezing down a site lane, or three laborers carrying bags is expensive in every direction. A cargo tricycle with a 300–500 kg deck turns the internal site haul into a one-person, near-silent, near-free job: no CDL, no fuel bill, no truck license plate, and no site access permit. Why Job-Site Hauling Is a Tricycle Problem
Construction sites are the opposite of delivery routes: short distances, heavy individual items, and terrain that changes every week. Three patterns make trikes the right tool:
- The laydown-to-hoist shuttle — materials arrive at the gate, get unloaded to a laydown area, then move 100–500 m to the hoist or work face. On a multi-building site that shuttle runs dozens of times a day.
- Renovation and fit-out work — interior jobs in occupied buildings where trucks cannot park and corridors are the only road. A 1.1–1.3 m wide trike navigates service entrances and loading docks.

What a Construction Trike Carries
Job-site loads are denser and rougher than delivery parcels. The standard 150–500L steel box with drop-sides handles the everyday list:
- Bags and sacks — cement (25–50 kg), mortar, sand, and gravel: a 500 kg deck carries 10–20 bags per trip depending on the spec.
- Bricks, blocks, and pavers — roughly 500–700 standard bricks per tonne; a 500 kg rated trike moves a practical half-tonne shuttle load.
- Tools, hardware, and fixtures — power tools, fasteners, doors, and fittings for fit-out crews, with the canopy option protecting them from weather.
- Scaffold components and timber — long, light loads that ride on the drop-side box or a flat-deck variant with tie-down points.

Loading Realities: Payload, Boxes, and Weight Distribution
Construction crews load fast and load heavy, so the box and frame take abuse that delivery fleets never see:
- Payload rating is the frame rating — our 300 kg (EU) and 500 kg (non-EU) ratings are structural: frame, rear axle, tires, and brakes are certified to the number, not just the motor.
- Drop-sides beat tailgates on site — crews slide bags off the side instead of dragging them over the tailgate; the side-hinged panels also double as loading ramps on some builds.

Motor and Torque for Loaded Ramps and Inclines
A loaded site trike climbs where delivery trikes never go: mud ramps, kerbs, temporary steel plates, and basement access slopes. That changes the motor spec:
- 800W — flat site shuttles up to 300 kg. Enough for interior fit-out and finished-floor moves.
- 1000W — the site-work default: 400–500 kg on gentle inclines and ramps.
- 1200W with differential — heavy half-tonne loads on real gradients; the differential keeps torque on the loaded wheel instead of spinning the inside wheel on loose ground.
Starting torque matters more than top speed on site: a 500 kg trike needs pull-away torque from standstill on a ramp, not a 35 km/h top end. Rough Terrain: Tires and Suspension
Site ground is mud, gravel, rebar offcuts, and wet plywood — the fastest way to kill a delivery-spec trike. Two specs decide survival:
- Tires — the 3.00-12 front / 3.75-12 rear dual setup with a load-rated carcass and a chunky tread pattern. Puncture resistance and dual-rear tire choice are covered in our tires guide.

Site Access, Safety, and Crew Logistics
Sites are governed by safety rules that delivery fleets never see: pedestrian segregation, PPE, load-securing, and speed limits. A site trike answers most of them natively — 25–35 km/h top speed, near-silent operation, and no exhaust in enclosed spaces — but three rules still apply:
- Secure every load — tie-down points on the deck and a load-securing strap protocol; a dropped half-tonne is a site incident, not a cargo loss.
- Spec the visibility package — full LED lighting and the optional warning beacon for low-light site work; the full safety feature set is in our safety features guide.

The Cost Math: Trike vs Truck on Site
A site pickup that runs 40 km a day in short hops costs $10–15 a day in fuel alone, plus insurance, plates, and a licensed driver. A 1000W construction trike at $1,250–1,550 FOB runs the same shuttles for $0.60–1.20 of electricity, with no plates, no CDL, and maintenance measured in brake pads and tires.
